Service Description
*** THIS IS A 1-DAY, HIGHLY CONDENSED VERSION OF OUR 3-DAY, 2-NIGHT URBAN CONFLICT PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE *** DESCRIPTION: Get in, get the shot, get out alive. This is a 1-day (8-10 hour) no bullshit, very serious, hands-on photography workshop focused on photographing riots and protests in high-risk environments. This course is a mix of classroom instruction and field exercises, based on my direct, personal experience photographing riots around the world where the threat of tear gas, projectiles, Molotov cocktails, mob violence and gun violence are very real threats. I've photographed in high-risk environments where people have been beaten, stabbed and shot to death, and I was able to get the shot and get out alive. This course will help you do the same. SPECIFICS: We will cover the following in this 1-Day course: - Planning - Gear prep - Shot list - Threat assessment - Variable light photography - Field editing - Protest and riot photography - Medical talk - Simulated mob violence - Final edits - Graduation LEVEL: New or experienced photographers wishing to photograph a protest or riot. GEAR: Full gear list provided to all students well in advance of class. Gear examples include: 2 cameras, 2 lenses, small backpack or camera bag, personal medical kit, boots, safety glasses, gas mask, etc. Gear list will include required items and links to purchase them, if needed. Instructor contact information will be included for questions. Ask as many as needed. We're here to help you succeed. CLOTHING: Full clothing list provided well in advance of class. Clothing examples include: Jeans, hiking pants, short sleeve and long sleeve shirts, comfortable boots, extra socks and underwear, gloves (Mechanix, Oakley, etc.), performance base layers, etc. Plan to get sweaty! You'll be wearing body armor and helmets. PHYSICAL FITNESS: This class is physically demanding. 1 week prior to class, you must submit a current 30-second video doing ONE of the following exercises: 6 burpees, or running up 4 flights of stairs, or jogging for 30-seconds with a 10 pound weight vest. You will photograph while running, crawling, kneeling, crouching, avoiding tear gas, projectiles and simulated mob violence. MOST IMPORTANT: Bring an open mind, a good attitude and a curious nature! This is a serious, but fun workshop that will prepare you to photograph in high-risk environments. *** CLASS BEGINS PROMPTLY AT 8:30 AM - IF YOU'RE NOT EARLY, YOU'RE LATE! ***
