MAT CHACON

PHOTOGRAPHER
/VISUAL STORYTELLER

This project visually documents a 36-year-old Chinese-American woman's strained path through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to achieve motherhood through science. It is a visually narrative body of work that exposes the most intimate details of her journey through the hidden, often misunderstood, and culturally taboo IVF process where privacy and empathy are afterthoughts. The imagery follows her taxing infertility experience from healthy womb preparation to embryo fertilization, embryo implantation, fetal monitoring, and finally the successful production of her first child. Due to the sensitive nature of this topic, she has requested to remain anonymous.
